July 6th, 2018

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved three different influenza vaccine production technologies:

Egg-based: this technology has been around for over 70 years and is used to make both inactivated and live attenuated vaccines.

Cell-based: this technology was first approved in 2012 and inoculates the viruses into mammalian cells instead of eggs.

Recombinant: 100% egg-free and can produce vaccine in the shortest amount of time.
